In November 2009, Sarah Springman (Ru & Cla) was formally installed as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng). The Royal Academy of Engineering was founded in 1976 to be the UK’s national academy of engineers. With over 1300 Fellows, of whom only 35 are women, Sarah was delighted to join Elizabeth Tanner (P & Cla), who was elected a Fellow in 2006. The ceremony took place at the Draper’s Hall, with the new Fellows welcomed by the Senior Fellow of the Academy, H.R.H., The Duke of Edinburgh. Sarah and Elizabeth are shown before the black tie dinner. Sarah has been Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at ETH in Zurich since 1997, while Elizabeth has been Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Glasgow since 2007.
